What Pregnant Women Should Know About Flu.
Flu is more likely to cause severe illness in pregnant women than in women who are not pregnant. Pregnant woman with flu also have a greater chance for serious problems for their unborn baby, including premature labor and delivery.
- Pregnant women and recently pregnant women have a higher risk of developing flu-related complications.
- You should get vaccinated against flu.
- There are some steps you can do to protect children under 6 months old.
- Antiviral medications can be given to pregnant women. Take direction from your doctor regarding medications and treatment.
- Breastfeed your infant because breast milk passes on antibodies from the mother to a baby.
- Emergency medical care may become necessary. Know the signs.

2011 Flu Vaccine Now Available
The 2011 Flu vaccine is now available at our office.
All people 6 months and older are now recommended to receive annual influenza
vaccination. This is a new and expanded recommendation for this season. In
February, 2011, CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted
in favor of “universal” influenza vaccination in the United States to protect as
many people as possible against the flu.

Clinicial Dietitian, Culinary Nutritionist Services Now Available
We would like to welcome Cheryl Glickman to our staff.
Cheryl got her degree in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology from Emory University and then went on to Johnson & Wales University where she mastered the Culinary Arts, specializing in Culinary Nutrition. Her clinical training was done at New York Presbyterian Hospital and she has since worked at Jersey City Medical Center, Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital, and is currently a dietitian with Broward Health. She has worked with patients ranging from diabetics to athletes to those with Crohn’s and heart disease.
Her vast clinical experience makes her ideal for counseling you on all of your nutritional needs, no matter what your medical history, symptoms, and goals may be. She will create an individualized nutrition plan that is doable and realistic for you, taking your food preferences and lifestyle into account and teach you healthy cooking techniques and recipes. She will help you transform your kitchen and eating habits while ensuring that you still enjoy the food you eat!
